Guide · Backup storage

Keep your backups on B2.

This works with B2’s S3-compatible API. You create a bucket and a key limited to it, then point your database’s backups in Kule there. Dokploy on your server takes and sends the backups every night; your Mac doesn’t need to be on.

Before you start

  • A Backblaze B2 account
  • A database on a server added to Kule with Dokploy installed

1Create the bucket

Create a new bucket in the B2 dashboard, for example merttopuz-yedek, and keep its files private.

On the bucket’s card you see an Endpoint value, for example s3.eu-central-003.backblazeb2.com. This is the bucket’s S3-compatible address; you will need it shortly.

2Create an application key

In the left menu, open Application Keys under B2 Cloud Storage and click Add a New Application Key.

  • Give the key a name.
  • In the Allow Access to Bucket(s) menu, choose only merttopuz-yedek.
  • Choose Read and Write as the type of access. Delete permission is also needed to clean up old backups.
  • Check Allow List All Bucket Names. Backblaze recommends this so that keys limited to a single bucket work with S3-compatible tools.

When you click Create New Key, you see two values: keyID and applicationKey. In S3 terms, keyID is the access key and applicationKey is the secret.

The applicationKey is shown only once; write it down right away. Don’t use your account’s main key (the master application key): B2’s S3-compatible API doesn’t accept it.

3Turn on backups in Kule

In Veritabanları (Databases), click Yedeklemeyi aç (Turn on backups) on the card of the database you want to back up. In the destination picker, choose + S3 uyumlu depo (+ S3-compatible storage).

  1. Choose Backblaze B2 as the provider.
  2. Type the bucket’s endpoint and name together in the Bucket field (below).
  3. Paste the keyID into the Access key field and the applicationKey into the Secret field, then save.
  4. When you return to the backup window, this bucket is selected as the destination. Confirm.

Build the address with the endpoint from the bucket card. If your bucket is in the eu-central-003 region, typing just the bucket’s name is enough; Kule fills in that region’s address itself.

After adding the storage, turn on the backup in the same window. The storage is registered in Dokploy together with the first backup that uses it.

4From then on

Kule adds the bucket to Dokploy as a backup destination and sets up a nightly schedule for the database. Every night at 03:00 (server time), Dokploy takes the backup and puts it in a folder in the bucket named after the database’s name in Dokploy; the 14 newest backups are kept. Your Mac doesn’t need to be on.

The keyID and applicationKey go directly to Dokploy on your server and are stored there. Kule doesn’t keep them on its side.

Restoring is manual for now: the backup file stays in the bucket, and Kule doesn’t restore automatically. If you also want to keep backups on this Mac, you can turn on backups to this Mac for the same database too.
